OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Writer’s Club Online is a live streamed online writing program that develops both creative thinking and writing skills in a positive club-like atmosphere. My goal is to encourage club members to explore their unique storytelling style and voice. Children have the time and space to experiment with a variety of genres and writing techniques while developing their writer’s voice and style.

At The Writer’s Club, You Will:

  • be challenged to grow and build your self-confidence as a writer.

  • exercise your creativity and imagination – they are muscles too!

  • participate in a range of activities designed to inspire creativity and foster writing skills and self-expression.

  • meet and share your writing talent (and ideas) with lots of new friends.

  • develop the essential skills of creative writing in a fun and supportive environment.

  • be engaged in the writing process from drafting to workshopping and publication.

  • have the opportunity to publish pieces of writing on our blog/website as well as entering writing competitions.

The Program

I present a new program each term and cover a variety of genres and writing styles such as fantasy quests, creating picture books, poetry, fictional diaries and personal writing.

Oral storytelling and literature are an integral part of the workshops and a constant source of inspiration for our programs. The length of each term’s program is usually 6 - 8 weeks and club members enrol for the full term. Classes are highly interactive and limited to 12 students. We write, we share, we learn new skills and support each other’s writing. Club members are encouraged to submit pieces of writing for feedback and are welcome to publish pieces on the blog.

Most of all – we have fun!

We aim to complete one extended writing project per term.

The Imagineers Online Book Club

Read Your Way To Better Writing

The Imagineers is a new online book and writing club for primary students from Years 3 – 6.

Each month we use a carefully chosen book as a springboard for group discussion and writing skills. Books are chosen to cover a range of themes, genres, styles and writing skills.

Your monthly program includes:

  • Monthly Explorer’s Guidebook with a selection of resources and activities which focus on particular writing skills showcased in the book.

  • 1 x 75 min workshop which includes discussion, journaling and writing skills which relate to the book in question.

  • Journaling prompts to help you reflect on the themes and ideas within the book.

Holiday Programs and Events

In 2021, you’ll find a combination of face to face and online writing workshops during the school holidays. This means your child can join in from wherever you live!

  • The online workshops cater for independent writers in Years 3 – 6.

  • There’s always a selection of workshops spanning across a range of genres from critical thinking, creative thinking, fiction and non-fiction writing.

  • I work in small groups of no more than 12 students.

  • Workshops include printable handouts and/ or follow up resources.

  • During 2021, I’ll also offer a series of writing intensives to give students the opportunity to consolidate writing skills in a small group setting.

  • Talented writers can extend their skills in our writing masterclasses.

  • We will also offer live events and workshops in Melbourne throughout the year.
